I've always had a habit of biting off more than I could actually chew - literally and figuratively. Now I've finally gotten myself into several commitments that require more than 24 hours of devotion a day yet not one of them would I want to see neglected or taken away.
I haven't graduated just yet but that will happen in a number of days and shortly after I'll be going to NYC for a summer internship in Brooklyn. I will be working with a program that educates inner city youths and brings them to the level of competitiveness academically as private, parochial, and military - type ivy league precollege academic schools. This is a job that I'd love to keep for life and I was very fortunate to get in the door but I'll begin Law School in the Southeast in the fall so that decision is pretty much made - I think :)
Between too many parties that have been fantastic all over town and finishing up with finals my mind has been in a daze and one day has blended into the other. I've been neglectful of this blog, my other blog, and another forum that I'm a co-hostess with and I apologize but realize that weekly updates may become impossible - they already have - as I'm barely hanging on now with what I have to do. I love catching up on everyone's blog though late at night and really enjoy more than anything Erika's tutorials. Every tip that I've ever used from her videos I still use and a lot of people have joined up though I haven't seen them posting, just to catch her new tips and videos. Go Erika!
So I'm just dropping in and saying hello to all of my friends out there and Erika and Michelle I owe you both an enormous Thank You for your commitment and hard loyal work to our makeup and skincare forum. Thank you both so much.

A fellow blogger on Vox contacted me recently and suggested that we start a group on Vox. When she proposed her idea to me I was all for it. Why not! Our intention in starting this group is to create a meeting place for women and men of all ages who know a lot or a little about living and being healthy and beautiful - naturally - or would like to learn.
I am a firm believer that everyone is beautiful from their conception and that real beauty shines from within the soul! I also believe that regardless of how closely one fits modern society's opinion of physically beautiful, unless the soul and nature of the person is attractive, soon the physical aspect of that beauty will fade. Also the Earth is filled with millions of herbs, minerals, oils, clays, etc... that can lend enormously to enhancing beauty.
I've been a researcher and avid follower of herbal health remedies, natural skin care regimens, and mineral makeup for several years. I hope that here we can learn more from one another and enhance our own beauty and health individually and collectively!
Please do share any health remedies, mineral makeup ideas or experiences, skin care recipes or recommendations, or healing herbal tonics that you've made, come across, or heard good claims about.
I wish you peace, joy, happiness, and the best of health!
I guess I should start by telling a little bit about myself. I'm Twenty - something, a college student and will soon graduate with a major in political science. I plan to go law school with hopes of working as an advocate or political advocate. When I'm not busy with school I enjoy reading, going to poetry lounges, watching Indie films, comedy clubs, plays, and concerts. Collecting vintage clothes and watching out for the latest styles is also another hobby of mine.
Another important part of my life is beauty and makeup and just saying that with the above paragraph of wanting to go to law school brings to mind Reese Witherspoon and "Legally Blonde" Not so much me at all but I do love looking my best and my personal appearance is as important to me as is my health, peace of mind, and well being. I've had an interest in herbs, nutrition, and holistic medicine since I was in middle school. I've been in love with makeup since I was a teenager. My philosophy is never too heavy a little bit does the trick.
After reading many articles, many opinions on different forums, and many blogs on makeup I've decided to create my own so that I can share my knowledge and experience with all of my friends and anyone else interested in reading of my experiences and perspectives on makeup - especially mineral makeup.
Why do I prefer mineral makeup? Because after using Cover Girl, Jane, Loreal, and MAC from the age of 13 until 17 my skin really began to suffer. It was the foundations that caused problems. I tried many drugstore brands such as Loreal, Maybelline, Almay, and Revlon. None seemed to come without some sort of drawback. Either they looked like a mask, rubbed off, or wound up causing skin break outs. I then went back to high end cosmetics hoping that a better quality would solve the problem. No such luck. For me anyways. My skin got worse and at that point I needed foundation to cover up the acne and scars. I couldn't go with the makeup optional look. I had tried every over the counter line, prescriptions, herbs, and private lines to clear up my skin. Nothing really made a lasting difference because I still needed foundation to cover the scars and pimples. My skin was suffering and I had to cover it up with foundation - the very thing that was causing the problem. Then one night I decided to give in and give the "hype" a shot that I had kept hearing about with natural mineral makeup. I didn't order my first Bare Escentuals kit over the phone, I instead purchased the starter kit from Sephora. It came with 2 shades of foundation, brushes, mineral veil, and a bronzer type product called Warmth. I was able to test the products out firsthand in person before buying. My first reaction was I wasn't impressed. I couldn't see a difference. I was so used to foundation being noticeable that I was ready to move on. But several people that were with me that day loved the new look. They loved it so much that they talked me into buying it. I did. Within a couple of weeks my skin was noticeably clearer and the break outs were seldom. I hadn't changed my cleansing routine only my foundation, blush, and face powder. It was obvious that the claims about mineral makeup were true, at least for me they were, and my skin was proof. Soon many of my friends began using the Bare Essentuals foundation too. From there I've moved on to trying a few different mineral makeup companies. My experience and opinion isn't fixed and firm on which line is actually the best for my skin and preferences but I am sold on mineral makeup being a better choice of cosmetic, especially for those with problem skin or those looking for a more natural look.
I still love and use MAC pigments, fluidlines, and lipglosses. I'm addicted to MAC. They really make excellent cosmetics but for foundations I am solidly a mineral girl. There are so many companies selling mineral makeup and I haven't come close to trying them all. Fortunately many are affordably priced and offer samples which makes trying them an adventure.
